Data Governance among Five Urban Indian Organizations in Montana

Tillie Stewart
Matthew Croxton

The Montana Consortium for Urban Indian Health is a membership organization for the five Urban Indian Organizations in Montana. Since the Fall of 2024, MCUIH staff have worked closely with staff from each of the UIOs to develop a formal Data Governance Committee. The Committee is intended to provide a collective space for decision-making, exercising sovereignty, and strengthening stewardship of UIO data to support care for our communities. In this presentation, Dr. Matthew Croxton of All Nations Health Center and Tillie Stewart of MCUIH will share how they have worked collaboratively to establish the Data Governance Committee, the procedures and protocols that the committee has developed, and philosophical reflections on the nature of data sovereignty for Native Service Organizations such as UIOs.
