The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency whose mission is to promote the progress of science by investing in projects focused on furthering STEM knowledge and education. NSF also supports solutions-oriented work designed to produce advancements for the American people, including projects involving Indigenous peoples. The goals of this session are twofold:

1) to raise awareness of NSF’s mission and work, especially as relevant to Indigenous communities; and
2) to engage in roundtable dialogue with all session participants to build relationships and share ideas pertinent to NSF’s work involving Indigenous data sovereignty and governance.

The session will begin with introductions, followed by a brief overview of NSF’s structure and goals, its efforts to improve the agency’s work involving Indigenous peoples, and potential funding opportunities. The session will then proceed to a roundtable conversation to gather perspectives on how NSF can better support Indigenous data sovereignty and governance. Please join the conversation!
